The U.S. Department of Labor is seeking applications
for grants to provide high-skill technology training
in certain labor shortage areas. Total funding of
$200 million is available for awards up to $3 million
each for a project period of three years. A 50% local
match is required.
Local Workforce Investment Boards representing a local
or regional public-private partnership that is comprised
of at least one Local Board, one business or business-related
non-profit organizqation such as a trade association,
and one community-based organization, higher education
institution or labor union that will carry out training
programs are eligible. Business partnerships may also
be eligible. |

Cisco Corporation will award $25,000 in equipment
and services in the "Growing with Technology
2003 Awards."
Cisco also offers Cisco Impact Grants and Cisco Product
Donations.
Cisco Impact Grants are offered to well-defined nonprofits
for basic human needs, access to education, responsible
citizenship and technology and innovation in nonprofits.
Cisco is preparing a new enhanced product grant program
for public and private K-12 schools that will be announced
on their website.
Nonprofits may apply for one of two product grants.
The "Connectivity Starter Kit" , valued
between $6,000-$10,000, supports a single site with
a maximum of 80 Ethernet users or 20 wireless users.
The "Customized Connectivity" product grant
serves multi-sites, requests for more than 80 Ethernet
users or 20 wireless users, or products such as internet
protocol (IP) telephony or teleconferencing, valued
at $30,000. |

An anticipated $8 million per year will be given for
10-20 awards for "Digital Government" academic/government
collaborations to contribute to government strategic
planning for information technologies and services.
Topics may include technology for law and order; digital
democracy and outreach; use of large datasets in government;
electronic rulemaking, networks; archiving of digital
materials, and egivernment for crisis management and
emergency response. |
