The CAPCO Science Class Challenge is a classroom contest for grades 4-9. The school will win $500 to $5,000 and a pizza party for the winning class. Full time teachers in grades 4-9 teaching devoting at least 20 minutes of class time teaching about the Earth's protective upper ozone layer, aerosoles, and the environment by using provided activities or your own creative methods are invited to apply. |

The Excellence in Teaching Cabinet awards, will provide educators a $1,000 implementation grant for a submitted project using Curriculum Associates materials; up to $500 worth of Curriculum Associates materials; the ability to provide product feedback and field test products in the classroom; and a means to share their success stories with other educators via the Curriculum Associates Web site. Applicants need to submit a 500-750 word project proposals indicating how they will create an innovative teaching project using a range of Curriculum Associates' media, including print and software. |

A K-12 grant of $400. plus Don Johnston literacy software will be offered to foster the creative use of computer technology to connect students with literacy learning in a variety of ways. Co-sponsored by the International Reading Association Technology in Literacy Special Interest Group and Don Johnston Incorporated, this award will fund projects that use the unique capabilities of computer software/hardware to enhance the literacy curriculum, extend the students 'communication capabilities, provide interventions, or offer students opportunities to assemble and express knowledge in meaningful ways. |

K-12 teachers will be glad to hear about the Electronic Data Systems Technology Grants of $1,500 awarded each year to teachers to pay for technology products, training and services not provided to the teacher by the school or the school district. The Electronic Data Systems Technology Grant program helps school teachers purchase technology products and services to improve the ability to learn. The grants are awarded to teachers through their schools. Examples of qualified grant expenditures include, but are not limited to, computer software and hard ware; multimedia equipment such as Web-Cams, CD-ROM libraries, digital cameras and, scanners and video boards; modems, internet access, and technical training. |

K-12 educators who are pioneering new methods of teaching are invited to apply for The Unsung Heroes Awards. Sponsored by ING, the financial services corporation, the First Place winner will receive $25,000; 2nd Place $10,000; and 3rd Place $5,000, in addition to the $2,000 awards for the 100 finalists made payable jointly to the recipient and to his or her school. At least one award will be granted in each state. Educators submit applications describing projects they have initiated or have envisioned for the future. Full-time educators, teachers, principals, parapro-fessionals, or classified staff with effective projects that improve student learning, working in both public and private schools are eligible to apply. Applications are judged on project description, benefits to students, and the use of funds for the project.

YouthActionNet is making grants available to youth leaders, non profit organizations, and projects that promote social change and connect youth with local communities. Recipients will receive $500, which includes funds for a disposable camera to record the recipient's project for an online photo gallery, and contribute to and online journal and a booklet of case studies highlighting the work of young people around the world bringing positive change to their communities. The YouthActionNet funding is supported by Make a Connection, a global initiative of the International Youth Foundation, and Nokia, the Finnish cellphone maker. The program is open to young people ages 18-24. |
